Gene Regulatory Evolution lab's latest work is online! First author Lindsey Snyder from the @UIowaGenetics and other coauthors in the lab @uiowabiology dissected the genetic basis and revealed some of the mechanisms behind transcription factor's dependence on co-TF.
Our seminar this week will be led by one of our very own, Bin He, PhD, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at @uiowa. The seminar will begin at 3:30pm on Friday, Oct. 11, in Kollros Auditorium (Room 101), Biology Building East (BBE). All are welcome to attend!
Hanxi Tang (BS in Biology on the Cell & Developmental track, Spring 2021), who successfully defended her master’s thesis this summer, will be joining the Chemical & Systems Biology PhD program at Stanford University this fall! Congratulations, Hanxi, on this exciting new chapter!
Congratulations to Cole Belcher for receiving the Arthur J. & Flora D. Levin Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Research! Cole served as an undergraduate research assistant in the He Lab for 2 years, & he graduated in Spring 2024 with a BS in Biology (Integrative Biology Track).

Many people contributed to this work - @PCF_uiowa really helped us get the biochem work started @n_schnicker is a co-author, and thank Lokesh Gakhar, Zhen Xu, and Devin Reusch for their help.
Congratulations to Lindsey Snyder, PhD, on successfully defending her PhD thesis “Evolution of stress response regulators and adhesin genes in pathogenic yeast” on April 5th! 👏 Dr. Snyder (left) was mentored by Assistant Professor Bin Z. He, PhD (right).
Congratulations to our undergrad student Ava Gabrys on her poster presentation at the 2023 Biology student research showcase on Friday, Oct 27, exploring "Copy number and protein feature variation in a yeast adhesin family and its potential contribution to yeast pathogenesis."
Lindsey Snyder (He Lab), a PhD candidate in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Genetics, will be defending her thesis tomorrow, April 5th, at 1 PM in BBE106.
The seminar is open to the public, so let’s show Lindsey our support during this milestone in her academic journey!
It's official. Thanks to the MIRA grant, my lab gets to live to fight another day (or five years!). We are now actively recruiting. Spread the word, and reach out if you are interested in doing a postdoc with me. One position is available jointly with Terry Hwa's lab. Exciting!
Time is almost up to apply for the NSF’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program in Interdisciplinary Evolutionary Sciences!
