A Dalit boy and a caste Hindu girl fell in love in Rajkot, Gujarat. They got married 7 years ago and were living happily with their son.

But her brother killed the youth today, made his own sister a widow just to flex their caste superiority in Hindu social order.

It is a deeply sick social order within Hindu society in India that Dalit man can be murdered simply for marrying outside the caste hierarchy. It is even more disgusting to see some people in the higher-caste hierarchy justify and glorify such incidents.

The United Nations and the international community should see caste atrocities as a human rights concern. Dalit lives and dignity deserve global attention and protection.

Shame on @iitbombay, they “fed” to the media that Sahil Wakode cheated so that media can absolve IIT from caste based discrimination and its reputation is not affected.

This was a casteist attempt to save predator professor! Dalit life is so cheap that can any third grade teacher sitting in top institutions on the behest of govt reward programs can belittle the tarnish the image of the student, who has to choose death over caste discrimination.

#MustRead In one of the most disturbing documented cases of caste discrimination in medical education, SC/ST students at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College & Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi repeatedly failed their first-year Physiology examination.

Several students had cleared other first-year subjects, yet they continued to fail Physiology over multiple attempts. According to reports, some students were forced to make as many as 4–14 attempts to clear the paper.

The students approached the Delhi High Court, alleging caste-based discrimination and seeking an independent re-examination. The Court ordered a fresh examination. In July 2011, the examination was conducted under close court supervision at the Army College of Medical Sciences.

The result was striking: 24 of the 25 SC students who had repeatedly failed the Physiology paper passed the re-examination.

The matter was subsequently investigated by a committee headed by Prof. Bhalchandra Mungekar on behalf of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes. In its 2012 findings, the committee reported caste-based discrimination against SC/ST students and recommended action against officials it held responsible, along with compensation for affected students.

This case demonstrates why the argument that caste discrimination is merely a thing of the past cannot be accepted without evidence.

Which doctors and hospitals were involved? Who benefited from these suspiciously cheap medicines? Which patients were administered the fake drugs, and what were the consequences?

A Dalit pregnant woman and her newborn baby died after police kicked her during her husband's arrest in Firozabad.

Following the police brutality, her condition worsened, and both she and her newborn died after childbirth.

Is there any judiciary, women's commission or human rights commission that stands up for Dalit women? The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has become largely symbolic and has remained inactive and ineffective for far too long.

CM Yogi should personally intervene and ensure a fair investigation and justice in this case. All police personnel found responsible must be arrested without delay.

United Nations Human Rights Council and other global forums must take note of the ongoing human rights violations against Dalits in India. It is deeply concerning that millions of Dalits continue to face serious human rights violations, while their grievances often receive inadequate attention at global forums.
