On a reflective Monday, I find myself reminiscing about one of the most fulfilling chapters of my professional journey, which commenced at Baze shortly after I graduated from university. My role there afforded me the privilege to counsel, mentor, and educate. Responsibilities that not only fostered my professional growth but also provided me with immense personal satisfaction. My affection for the job stemmed not only from its people-centric nature but also from the opportunities it presented for continuous learning and the cultivation of a highly productive professional network.

The position at Baze was a gateway to extensive travel, which was a delightful perk, but the true reward lay in witnessing the evolution of my students. I watched with pride as they transformed from strangers into close friends, and in some cases, even life partners.Particularly within the first five cohorts, was truly remarkable. I fondly recall the fierce loyalty of Binta Ndume. That lady was fierce! her youthful leadership qualities shone brightly as she passionately defended her peers. Her protective nature was a testament to her innate leadership skills.

then they were the lovebirds whose relationships blossomed into marriages, and I was blessed to form sisterly bonds with individuals like Sumayya Khalifa, my dear Chimdi, and Asmau Garo Seesah! a formidable forc, even then, seesah could sell and market anything! now she owns a carpentry factory and a lot more and sure! her entrepreneurial spirit knew no bounds.

Uzezi, initially seeming confused 😄 emerged as a confident leader by the end of her tenure at Baze with a kind heart. And then there was Alex, who nurtured her friends with maternal affection that was so impressive. Right there watching girls turning into powerful women!

Experiencing the drama, growth, and learning was a joy, and whenever I encounter these individuals on social media, my heart swells with gratitude and pride. These young women, who began their journeys amidst confusion and uncertainty, have blossomed into remarkable figures, and I am profoundly proud of each one of them, including those I haven't mentioned by name.

Now, as I sit in New York engaged in discussions about Africa's future, the role of women, and their participation in leadership, I am filled with optimism. I have no doubt about the capabilities of these young women, who seem to possess innate potential and strength. The task at hand is to create spaces where these capabilities can thrive and where their potential can be fully realized. It is about nurturing an environment that not only recognizes but also celebrates and empowers the next generation of female leaders.!
