no but in all seriousness the good news is that the whole cellular and cable grid could go down, even the whole electric grid, and we'd just go back to old-school musicianship and keep the funk alive that way.
quite a mind-boggling time to be alive. Like I can go just about anywhere and teleport James Brown into my presence through a bunch of electromagnetic wiggles and computer chips, but the societal arrangements that made this technology possible are extremely sus & not sustainable
if the funk is being broadcast globally in its undiluted form this is probably good for humankind at large, the question is do we need a Kojevean global-state authority aligned with pro-funk interests to filter the fake shit out of people's speakers & regulate streaming services
I had a pretty standard understanding of medieval Christianity where everything was just inquisitions & witchhunts & repression but then I read about Hildegard of Bingen and realized it's a bit more complicated and the Church could actually be a pretty accepting place some places
and then now I've just learned that Hildegard may have been one of the earliest Catholics to believe in purgatory. guess she'll be going on my 2027 reading list now
I'm not reading any more about this but will definitely be bringing it up with friends and strangers for the next month. we're talking quantum physics levels of complexity here, you can come at it morally politically legally psychologically pathologically philosophically...
