Today, I engaged in a fruitful meeting with my friend and Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, @antonioguterres. Our discussion centered around the next steps in Africa’s push for UN Security Council reform, Regional Security in the Sahel, and the strides made by Sierra Leone in strengthening its democracy.
I extend my appreciation to the Secretary-General for backing Africa in addressing historical injustice and for his unwavering dedication to fostering peace and stability in the Sahel Region.
As Sierra Leone continues its leadership of the UN Security Council, it remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing equity, justice, and ensuring global peace and security.
As the President of the United Nations Security Council, I have the honour to preside over a historic debate on the reform of the UN Security Council.
I spoke as a representative of a Continent that has long been underrepresented in the Council that shapes our world on matters of peace and security.
Let me restate that the time for half-measures and incremental progress is over. Africa's voice must be heard, and its demands for justice and equity must be met.
I thank the UN Secretary-General, H.E António Guterres, @antonioguterres, the President of the 78th Session of the @UN General Assembly, H.E Denis Francis, and Dr. Sithembele Mbete for their very insightful and thought-provoking briefings.
With extreme delight, I received a copious and comprehensive report on the gains we have made in the first 365 days of my second tenure of office as your president.
In spite of global geopolitical and socio-economic challenges that have constrained growth, we have registered significant progress on our FIVE BIG GAME CHANGERS especially Feed Salone. We have enacted progressive legislation; made gains in healthcare; revamping our governance architecture; maintaining an enviable continental and global standing.
This is progress we should be proud of as a nation. We will keep on track, as we continue working relentlessly to transform our nation.
I heartily congratulate you, Sir Keir Starmer @Keir_Starmer Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, on your resounding victory in the just concluded UK parliamentary elections.
Sierra Leone looks forward to further strengthening our already solid historical and bilateral relationships with the United Kingdom.
