In 1912, my great-grandfather photographed the lower #FoxRiver in a wooden row boat. In 2012 we relocated many of his original locations. Today I challenge my future great-grandchildren to take the same canoe trip in 2112! Happy #NationalCameraDay
Some things in America are good and beautiful like this Megachile sp. (Leaf-cutter Bee) on Asclepias syriaca (Common Milkweed) #PollinatorWeek. So maybe focus on that today, and then tomorrow prepare to vote in the next election and every election for the rest of your life.
It's planting season!! To encourage the planting of native plants non-profits throughout IL host plant sales. These events are also typically fundraisers for education programming! Let's support these sales and help spread the word. Share your local plant sale in the comments!
100th species of 2022: #GreaterScaup (right)! Probably my least favorite sp. to search for in Kendall b/c: 1) they look nearly identical to #LesserScaup (left), 2) 99.99% scaup here are LESC, 3) it's inevitability cold, windy, & rainy when they migrate through. #birderproblems
The Great Backyard Bird Count 2022 #GBBC has ended. A record shattering 43 different species of birds (including this common #redpoll) visited my backyard this weekend!!! Ideal weather & a free schedule collided into a memorable event! Notable flyovers: NOPI, LESC, KILL, NOHA...
It's the Great Backyard Bird Count #GBBC this weekend! After Day 1, I'm sitting at 26 species! Thanks, in part, to these flyover #SnowGeese. My record is 31 & I still have 3 days to go. Target sp. include: BLJA, AMCR, RBWO, COHA, & BAEA. All would be great choices for #BRDL too.
Congrats to our girls soccer signees! Taylor English (Kent State), Chloe Noon (University of Indianapolis), Megan Ferry (University of Wisconsin-Platteville), and Makayla Lambert (Flagler College). We are looking forward to a great spring with these leaders!
