We are very excited to announce that our member @FinalFoods is offering a 2 day bioreactor primer class at BioCurious on July 17th and 18th 10am - 4pm. The hands-on class is both days and costs $500.
Get more details and sign up for the class at: https://t.co/a46XGfJBBD
Hey spread the word if you want to take the first in person class at the lab, since COVID hit!
We are excited to see @FinalFoods offering this in person hands on lab class on how to use a bioreactor! Just a few slots left.
@daphmarts @JusticeToshiba @HankGreelyLSJU@eco_genome@rayfutia@elemrei Community driven science is accessible, it asks and looks at local issues, and brings a new lens to explore science. It is flexible and necessary to open science in this way. It is supporting students and teachers as well. New pedagogy of teaching STEM.
@daphmarts @JusticeToshiba @HankGreelyLSJU@eco_genome@rayfutia@elemrei Community participation is not just interesting but vital. I feel we have created a separation between science and people that has led to a distrust of science as it is kept inaccessible in institutions and behind paywalls, in journals with increasingly inaccessible language.
@rayfutia@daphmarts@HankGreelyLSJU@eco_genome @JusticeToshiba @elemrei@meganjpalmer GMO safety has been a political and messaging issue, the tech itself isnt inherently unsafe but the myths and misinformation is so prevelant we have lost the information war we didnt know we were fighting about it.
@daphmarts@HankGreelyLSJU@eco_genome @JusticeToshiba @rayfutia@elemrei@meganjpalmer Too many to list, science and biotech is nascent in many ways being built on a solid foundation but alot of science is derivative and its hard to get truly new ideas explored. Allowing more research freedom for phd grads would open up alot. Community labs help the gap #BioTheWhat
@daphmarts @JusticeToshiba @HankGreelyLSJU@eco_genome One example is the work of the rare disease community like that done by @eperlste and others is working to change models of funding and pushing more value driven results so there is vast opporutnity for improvements.
@daphmarts @JusticeToshiba @HankGreelyLSJU@eco_genome I think that questions on equity, cost, safety, etc are being adressed as per industry regulations, and led too much by investor needs and has the same issues we have had with pharma only now spread across new areas of bio tech. No innovation in these areas.
POLL TIME:
Are the current and future efforts in the industry addressing your values, needs, and concerns? Why or why not? Elaborate in replies!! #BioTheWhat @JusticeToshiba @HankGreelyLSJU@bioCURIOUSlab@eco_genome
@daphmarts @JusticeToshiba @HankGreelyLSJU@eco_genome@rayfutia@elemrei The cost is dropping but wide spread adoption is slow as cost/accessibility is still out of reach of many international universities and students. If biotech is our next wave of industrialization then I worry barriers are going to globally and regionally increase inequalities.
