What is so ridiculous about Satrapi's petite bourgeois feminist discourse is that worker and peasant Iranian men (and even some boys) were at the front being bombed and gassed defending their country while she stayed behind going to grad school for free. A mistake for Iran in hindsight. Should have sent people like her to build the countryside instead of giving her a useless education.
Capitalists practice human sacrifice by giving us poors to the turning gears of the Market 'god'.
We oughta bring it back and sacrifice our most 'successful' earners and see where that goes.
Marjane Satrapi's persona is tailor-made for a particular Western and especially French intellectual aesthetic: the rebellious, self-aware, permanently alienated individual who stands apart from both tradition and society. the classic postmodern protagonist, skeptical, forever at odds with the world around her. "So confident. tortured. very cool. ME,ME,ME, Nobody understands me." less concerned with collective social forces (French Marxist apparently)
