Gene-replacement therapies are used to correct genetic disorders that are caused by mutations in a single gene that stop it from working properly. They involve inserting new, working copies of the gene into relevant cells, typically using a virus as a carrier.

Researchers at UC San Diego, USA, have discovered that plants use a two-protein system to regulate the opening of the stomata.In low CO2 environments, the protein, HT1, activates an enzyme which force guard cells to keep stomata open.
When CO2 concentration increases inside the plant, a second protein blocks the HT1 pathway.
