you have been taking iron every morning exactly like the bottle says, and your ferritin has barely moved.
week one you felt the nausea and blamed the iron. week three brought the constipation and you decided that is just what iron does to people. week eight the blood test comes back and the number has crawled up a few points, after two months of doing everything the label told you.
here is what was happening on those mornings. every time you swallow iron your body raises a hormone called hepcidin, and it stays raised for roughly 24 hours. hepcidin is the switch that closes the door on iron absorption. so the dose you take the next morning arrives at a door your last dose already shut.
researchers in switzerland measured it directly. women given 60 mg of iron every other day absorbed 21.8% of it. the women taking the same 60 mg every single day absorbed 16.3%. total iron that actually made it in was 175 mg against 131 mg. the group swallowing fewer pills ended up with more iron in them.
and the iron you did not absorb does not vanish. it sits in your gut, pulls water in, and makes you feel exactly as rough as you have been feeling. that nausea was unabsorbed iron the whole time.
they tested splitting the dose too, morning and evening, the way a lot of labels suggest. hepcidin went higher and absorption got worse.
so it is one dose, every other day, in the morning, on an empty stomach if you can manage it. the same bottle lasts twice as long and delivers more iron into you than the schedule printed on the back.

The Massachusetts Male Aging Study followed 1,532 men in Boston from 1987 to 2004. Comparing men of the SAME age across different years, testosterone kept dropping. Their own conclusion: "some undocumented historical or contemporary influence."
Nobody has identified the cause. That's not us being dramatic, that's the paper.
What IS established, and what you can actually act on:
SLEEP, 10 healthy young men cut to 5 hours a night for one week. Daytime testosterone fell 10-15%. For scale, normal aging costs 1-2% per YEAR. Small study (n=10), but controlled.
BODY FAT, fat tissue converts testosterone to estrogen via aromatase. The single most reproducible lifestyle association in this literature.
RESISTANCE TRAINING, acute post-workout rises are real but small and short-lived. The durable benefit is through body composition, not the spike itself.
ALCOHOL, heavy intake suppresses testicular function. Occasional drinking is a much smaller effect than the internet claims.
WHAT TO IGNORE, most "test boosters." Tribulus has repeatedly failed to raise testosterone in trials. D-aspartic acid raised it briefly in one study and failed to replicate. Zinc and vitamin D only help if you're actually deficient, that's a blood test, not a guess.
If you have real symptoms, low energy, low libido, poor recovery, get an actual morning blood test before you buy anything.
