First salary credited.

Mom’s gift = NO
Dad’s gift = NO
Self gift = NO

LIC Policy = BIG YES.

This happened with one of my youngest cousins.

He just finished his MBA and got his first job.

Before his first salary was even credited…

A relative visited his home.

“You’ve started earning now. It’s time to secure your future.”

He opened a file.

Explained a few LIC plans.

And recommended one with an annual premium of ₹1.2 lakh for 10 years, promising “good returns” in the future.

My cousin didn’t say yes.

He didn’t say no either.

He simply replied,

“Let my first salary come. I’ll take it next month.”

Then he called me.

“Nikhil Bhaiya… should I buy this?”

I smiled.

Because I’ve seen this story hundreds of times.

The day you start earning…

Someone suddenly becomes very concerned about your financial future.

And the first advice they give is:

“Ek LIC policy le lo.”

Not an emergency fund.

Not health insurance.

Not term insurance.

Not investing according to your goals.

Just…

“LIC le lo.”

This is probably the worst financial advice most fresh earners receive.

A savings-cum-insurance plan should never be your first financial product just because someone sold it emotionally.

Your first salary deserves better decisions.

Build protection first.

Then build wealth.

Don’t mix the two.

If someone approached you with a LIC policy right after your first salary, type “ME” in the comments.
