At Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France, the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) and Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) proudly led the Biotechnology theme, showcasing India's growing strength in biotechnology, deep-tech innovation, and biomanufacturing on a global platform.
The DBT-BIRAC pavilion highlighted India's rapidly expanding BioEconomy, the BioE3 Policy, the BIRAC-RDI Fund, BioSaarthi, BRIC's research ecosystem, and BIRAC's translational innovation network, demonstrating the country's commitment to fostering breakthrough technologies, entrepreneurship, and global collaborations.
The event witnessed significant milestones, including strategic international partnerships by BIRAC-supported startup ATGC Biotech with Albaugh Europe and Luxembourg Industries Ltd., enabling the global adoption of indigenous Indian innovations in sustainable agriculture and biological pest control.
A major boost to India's bioeconomy was announced through the BIRAC-RDI Fund, with term sheets worth over ₹450 crore awarded to Fermbox Bio Pvt. Ltd., Sea6 Energy Pvt. Ltd., and Revelations Biotech Pvt. Ltd. to accelerate innovations in precision fermentation, ocean-based biotechnology, and synthetic biology, further strengthening India's biomanufacturing ecosystem.
The panel discussion, “Bio-Innovation and Bio-Manufacturing for Global Leadership,” featuring eminent global leaders from industry, research, and innovation ecosystems was curated by DBT-BIRAC. The discussion explored how India can build on its position as the "Pharmacy of the World" to emerge as a global leader in bio-innovation and biomanufacturing through the convergence of science, entrepreneurship, AI, policy support, capital, and international partnerships. The session reinforced that the future of the bioeconomy will be driven by scientific excellence, manufacturing capabilities, innovation-led ecosystems, and cross-border collaboration.
