Our thanks to @ChicagoAudubon, @chicago_birder, and The Illinois Ornithological Society for sponsoring a thank you event for your Chicago Piping Plover Monitors! 🧡 There were many kind words exchanged amongst the kindred souls present and much camaraderie.
Wow, around 316 million #birds are predicted to migrate south this evening! #FallMigration is especially exciting as young, juvenile birds join the adult birds on their way South. Remember to #DimtheLights at night to help these nocturnal migrants on this impressive journey! 💡
Watch this powerful documentary on the work that CBCM and the Field Museum are doing to protect migratory birds. The film features interviews with Annette Prince (CBCM) and David Willard (Field). https://t.co/upmHXAk3Bw

A history mystery involving your neighborhood birding group?
This is a fascinating read that somehow manages to touch on the history of art, science, and preservation while still ultimately being about one of the silliest looking birds around. Check it out.

Migration is starting! This Northern Waterthrush and his kin have shown up in our area. These are one of our earliest migrant warblers in the fall. It's a good reminder to get the bird tape on your windows and save the CBCM hotline # to your phone: 773-988-1867. (📷Jeff Bilsky)
Here’s looking at you, Chicago! 🤍

With no sightings of either today, it appears that Imani and Wild Indigo have started off on their southward migration.

The Chicago Ornithological Society board of directors is excited to announce the approval and adoption of a new logo!
After 34 years, we are retiring our current logo which is one of three logos that have represented COS in its over 100 year history.
Claire was an important force behind the bird friendly buildings ordinance Chicago and neighboring towns have adopted. Her architectural expertise and persistence has made a significant difference for Chicagoland birds. A heartbreaking loss.
It is with with great sadness that we report the passing of COS board member, Chicago birder, and dear friend, Claire Halpin.
Our deepest sympathy to Claire's family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

It's prime owling season and like clockwork, the hunt for these charismatic birds has ruffled some feathers. It's important to respect an owl's space when observing.
We are often asked how close is too close.
We can't tell you (there's no simple answer) but the owls will.
We reached 25 episodes and counting of our virtual program series Birds & Bytes! We have no plans of stopping any time soon. Got a topic you'd like to see covered? Let us know!

UPDATE UPDATE: Supporters ran a clean campaign -- clean air, clean water & wildlife -- and it seems to have paid off. Vast majority of votes counted & yeas 2 to 1 over nays. Cook County loves its preserves. https://t.co/CrCFSZ5zNf
