Former Government advisor Professor Neil Ferguson has just told Commons Science Committee:
"Had we introduced lock down measures a week earlier we would have reduced the final death toll by at least a half"
We're preserving #BlackLivesMatter signs left at the former site of the #Colston statue so we can tell the story of this historic moment for our city at @mshedbristol
Over 300 healthcare workers dead from #COVID19 and the government refuses to hold a special enquiry into the lack of #PPE
Good luck to the doctors and others challenging them

The worst thing about #SittingInLimbo is that this isn’t even a particularly extreme example of how the hostile environment ruined lives. Just one of 1000s Lambs to the slaughter': 50 lives ruined by the Windrush scandal | UK news | The Guardian https://t.co/km34kz78gr
So, all the people that have been making visors have been told that unless they pay £3000 for a certification, they are not legal, and they can be sued for making them. All that hard work, care, love and money for nothing and the government are still not supplying enough
Your tactics of division will not work. We are in solidarity with teachers, teaching assistants, lunchtime assistants, cleaners, caretakers, with the children & their loved ones. No return to school until it is safe to do so. Workers lives matter infinitely more than your profits.
Very thoughtful & pragmatic thread. Whatever your thoughts it’s clear the pandemic has, in so many areas of social & economic life, shone a very public spotlight on too much failing & injustice. The challenge now is to grasp the chance for change it has provided

The tabloid press are pushing for, and prematurely celebrating, end of lockdown. Lockdown has hurt their circulation & ad revenue hugely.
So it’s in their financial interests to push for an end to lockdown, even if it’s not safe for you, me & our families.
This is the big comms strategy in action I guess. Private renters are going to be voting for Labour already so not much point protecting them. I hope they’re still in the mood to do it if Keir spends the next five years chucking them under buses like this one
Nearly 60% of care workers who look after older people in their own homes are on Zero Hours contracts. If they don't work they don't get paid and if they go off sick they get £95 a week. In the midst of a pandemic this is a major public health hazard. https://t.co/CeSKVVLwUj
@michaeljswalker Linking VE Day with the corona crisis in care homes was smart. Except where were Labour when Johnson was bullshitting about 'cocooning' the elderly at the same time that many care homes had zero PPE or testing for staff or visitors?
Genuine Question: Has Starmer announced a good policy yet?
I know policy isn’t all that matters - he sees main task to detoxify party among key voters. With VE Day stuff he’s done well. But concrete positions have either been empty (exit strategy) or actively bad (Kashmir, rent)
Labour's landlord policy not only puts more power in the hands of some of the most morally repugnant people in society but effectively offers a serious rent hike for millions during a crisis which is likely to overshadow the Great Depression. Unbelievably depressing and cowardly
I'm incandescent.
This is a slap in the face of every renter, by the party that should be defending our right to housing.
Expecting those already struggling & likely to face unemployment, to pay full rent costs- while landlords don't have to, is a disgrace.
@ashcowburn @ThangamMP @UKLabour@Keir_Starmer This sounds like widening the renter/homeowner/landlord social divide to me. Is that what @UKLabour is about nowadays? 2/2
@ashcowburn @ThangamMP Is a 2- year repayment window for renters to pay back arrears on top of their normal rent the best @UKLabour can do @Keir_Starmer @ThangamMP? Homeowners get extra time to pay arrears at end of their mortgage term. Are you saying renters can afford higher payments?! 1/2
