When Floods Rose, A Soldier Became Hope — Naik Nursing Assistant Ram Lakhan Kumar’s Story of Courage

Amid the fury of floodwaters in Matoda village, #Ahmedabad District, when rising waters threatened a mother and her unborn child, one soldier stepped forward as a beacon of hope.

Naik Nursing Assistant Ram Lakhan Kumar responded to a distress call from a flooded house where an expectant mother in advanced labour was trapped amid the raging waters. With danger all around and every moment critical, he entered deep and treacherous waters, placing the lives entrusted to him above his own safety.

With unwavering calm, medical expertise and presence of mind, he created an emergency medical space amidst the crisis and safely delivered a healthy baby. Yet, his mission was not complete.

Securing the mother and newborn on improvised floating stretchers, he battled nearly two kilometres of continuous neck-deep floodwaters, ensuring they reached a critical care ambulance safely.

His swift medical response, remarkable endurance, and fearless commitment saved two precious lives in dire peril and reflected the finest ethos of the Army Medical Corps and the highest traditions of the #IndianArmy.

Indian Army Standing Strong with the People of Gujarat

Responding swiftly to the flood situation in Gujarat, the #IndianArmy launched multiple Relief and Rescue Columns across the State over the past three days.

Operations were undertaken across #Valsad, #Vapi, #Navsari, #Silvassa, flood-affected areas of #Ahmedabad, including #Dholka and #Rajoda, where troops evacuated over 790 stranded civilians; assisted vulnerable residents; distributed food, water, and essential relief material; and supported the civil administration in restoring normalcy.

Beyond the numbers lie countless stories of courage, resilience, and selfless service. Working shoulder-to-shoulder with the NDRF, SDRF, SEOC, civil administration, and courageous civilian volunteers, the operation stands as a shining example of #MilitaryCivilFusion - bringing hope to those in distress and reaffirming the enduring commitment of the #IndianArmy to the Nation.

Commemorating 27 years of India's historic victory in the #KargilWar, commemorative outreach events were organised by #SouthernCommand at the invitation of Reliance Malls in #Jodhpur, #Vadodara and #Pune, bringing the legacy of courage and sacrifice closer to the citizens.

The highlight of the events was the display of #IndianArmy weapons and military equipment, offering visitors a first-hand glimpse of the Army's capabilities. Interactions with veterans, motivational talks, patriotic performances and career awareness sessions inspired the youth to explore opportunities for a career in the #IndianArmy.
