asian americans do not write solely about kumon and tiger parents it is just that you are only reading asian american authors who write solely about these things and that is a you problem and not an asian american problem. saying things like this = huge tell
@ahabstanaccount maybe i'm #toowoke but seeing everyone flame asian american women writers as a /whole/ was kinda .... ?????
it felt a bit like "haha ew WOMEN haha ew ASIAN WOMEN ahaha"
for the mfa white boyfriend thing obviously that was published and so it’s not unfair to criticize it in public but on the other hand the way the internet dogpiles on things, especially anything with a racial or gender angle, is just really gross
It's not that Asian Americans can't possibly lead interesting lives or write interesting stories. It's that traditionally, mainstream American media only platforms boring Asian American narratives that reinforce easy to digest stereotypes about tiger moms and dating white guys.
@Richmond_Lee@AceHarlem299840 Like I'm from NZ where the east asian population makes up 17.3% of the population (but this includes southeast and south Asians too) so theres a lot of varied books movies etc out there but since theyre NZ published/distributed you dont see that in mainstream internet discourse
@Richmond_Lee@AceHarlem299840 People generalise AA art but theres a lot of unique interesting stuff out there eg Monica Kim's horror novel The Eyes Are the Best Part, I think stuff like that gets glossed over on social media or it doesn't make it into the mainstream to begin with
Gen Z are alright, y'all!
Walking into our 13 floor building, I saw college student neighbor M standing by the door. She opened door for me, said hi, then a delivery guy walked in. She took food from him.
In the elevator, I asked, delayed delivery?
She said no, on time. /1
