Anthropic has been one of the most thoughtful, ethical voices on AI safety. This week alone, Dario:
✔️ Published an essay calling for regulations
✔️ Called for a global pause on AI development

The safety narrative Anthropic built over years achieved something real: it convinced governments that AI is a genuine national security concern

Governments act on what they believe. And this week they acted, banning Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all foreign nationals. To ensure failproof implementation, Anthropic had to pull back the models entirely.

Massive improvement from model 4.7. Aside from the agentic and coding gains, I love that the 4.8 model is more trustworthy and more likely to flag uncertainties—and less likely to make unsupported claims.
Effort control has also been improved on this latest release, making it easy to choose how much effort it takes to respond from low up to max.
I love the dynamic workflow integration too.
On a flip side, though, I am not sure I totally agree with the published competitive benchmark claims (beating GPT-5.5 and Gemini 3.1 Pro).
