Wading at the intersection of Ancient Studies(ULaval) all sorts of writing (UBC) video editing(CBC) UK politics(🤷🏾♀️) physics (by association) Québec&Toronto
Honestly, although I’m enjoying C4, BBC has mostly been on mute and I’ve been increasingly watching LBC. I normally despair of watching radio but this is exactly my speed! Wonderful combination of people.
I’m hearing from some very worried Labour people in some northern seats who cannot believe the Reform votes coming in. Some worried about not just second place finishes but unexpected Labour losses.
I think Channel 4’s coverage is great (employing @FryRsquared like this is pure genius, as is she, and love the @maitlis@krishgm team up) and I’ve been obsessed with British politics for well over a decade but I just don’t get Gogglebox.
I’m delighted to report that news of the death of the long serious political interview
was premature. My @BBCPanorama Election Leaders interviews all aired in prime time on @BBCOne with sizeable audiences - one and a half to over two million. You can watch any or all of them on @bbciplayer - search for Election 2024.
Having researched, produced, edited & now carried out interviews with politicians ever since I became a journalist in the 1986 I hope they - along with interviews by @BethRigby & others - make the case for longer, reflective interviews outside election campaigns.
We chose to cover a wide range of questions - both personal and policy - in every interview so that voters who don’t watch or listen regularly to politics had an overview of each leader’s record, values and policies. That inevitably meant just a few minutes for very meaty topics which left some frustrated. Also, because I don’t believe that interviews should be televised press releases, there were plenty of challenges (a better word than interruptions in my view) in order to try to get answers to questions and not just speeches.
When the campaign is over my brilliant team led by @HarrietJOliver and I can review and learn from the experience.
Do please feed in any thoughts you have
@lewis_goodall Yes but some answers are so revealing on a deeper level. Like the question about why they, as men, should be trusted to look after the best interest of women. “Look at the talented women on my team.” vs “Trust me because I have daughters.” I feel like those kinds of answers last
@maitlis@lewis_goodall I think @jonsopel has questions to answer about his cameo as a toy company exec in The Santa Clause 🤔 Much love from a near 200%er grateful for your excellent company as she slowly loses her mind to baby’s sleep aversion. Reese cups on me! @TheNewsAgents
@blgtylr I only “know” you from tweets (it’s the heady mix of When Harry Met Sally and Zola tweets that initially got me hooked) but I feel like you might be happy in Montréal. It seems to tick a lot of boxes.
@WorkClassicists Hi! I have an undergrad in Classics (and a diploma in “ancient oriental languages”) and work in news - I am a video production editor for the CBC (like the BBC but Canadian). Definitely got there diagonally.
YOUR WORK IN THE VAGINA MUSEUM! We are looking for a specific object donation from a maker which would form a part of our permanent collection and be part of our permanent display. We want an anatomically correct vulva cushion used for teaching anatomy.
