Took perhaps the most interesting backend interview in a long while, I was basically given a logs dump and a codebase (Kafka Operator: https://t.co/JQ15DYXB9v), and was asked to reverse-engineer the Dockerfile and fix the issues that were failing the build process.

Could identify that the yq command was failing, leading to a downstream script to manage MVN versions failing too with a non-existent subscript (versions[-1]).

Although mine is a tech account, I'll give my political opinion today as to why BJP won this time, and a pretty long opinion too.

The year is 1997 and by this time WB was all but gone to the dogs economically. My dad was a chemical engineer working in IPCL (usurped by Reliance in 2005), and the wages were not really to be proud of. With no jobs in WB's horizon he applied at Essar Oil (now Nayara Energy) and got selected for their opening at Jamnagar, Gujarat.

At the time Jamnagar was no more than a sleepy and dusty town with Reliance and Essar both scaling up their refineries and brining in employees, my dad being one of them. My parents thus left their home state of WB in 1998 and since then have found no way to return thanks to 54 years of absolute nonsense in the name of governance and economic growth (1972-77 Congress, 1977-2011 Left, 2011-2026 TMC)

I spent the first 7 years of my life in Gujarat till 2005 and the remaining in Maharashtra, and there was nothing but shame when West Bengal was being discussed, the beacon of industrial and academic might reduced to being 24th in India's PCI rankings, with GDP contribution dropping from 16% in 1956 to 4% in 2026.

The new BJP government gives hopes to my family and many other families that future Bengali generations wouldn't have to leave their home state in search of a livelihood.

My family has been a witness to extremely good governance models in both GJ and MH, and many like us hope that for the first time since 1972, WB will see the same being replicated.

Anytime you cap flow of money be it salaries or prices, you are essentially inhibiting the economy through socialism.

@bubun_s @VarshneyVardhan That's the reason proper free markets have MSRP instead of MRP. The price ceiling is just a suggestion because you cannot release a product without telling retailers how much to sell it for.

@VazeKshitij Been there, done that in my first company back in 2022. In my experience, my manager at the time suddenly turned toxic and of a gaslighting nature when I revealed to him my offer and my intentions to leave. It's a canon event everyone should go through
