Word origin of the day: 'juggernauts' take their name from Jagannātha, ('Lord of the World'), the name given to a form of the Hindu god Krishna worshipped in Puri, eastern India. At a festival every year his giant image is pulled through the streets in a huge, heavy chariot.
In AD 79, a baker in Herculaneum put his loaf of bread into the oven. Nearly 2,000 years later, the stamp of the carbonised loaf (divided into eight wedges) can still be read: CELERIS Q. GRANI VERI SER[VUS]
'Property of Celer, the slave of Quintus Granius Verus.' #WorldFoodDay
