🚨 FOMC SUMMARY: HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED

The Fed held rates at 3.75% to 4.00%, as expected, but the vote wasn’t unanimous, and Warsh’s tone kept December in play.

THE DECISION
- Rates unchanged at 3.75% to 4.00%
- It was the first meeting since September’s hike, the first in three years
- The vote was 10-2
- Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed’s Beth Hammack voted for a 25 bps hike
- Cook had never dissented before, so it was a surprise

WARSH’S PRESS CONFERENCE
- Growth has strengthened
- Financial conditions have tightened for some businesses and households, “much as we would expect”
- Politics played “no role” in the decision
- Fewer rate-setting meetings are coming in the next few years

THE TAKEAWAY
The market reaction was muted: stocks ( $QQQ $SPY $GOOGL $MSFT ) edged higher.

A December hike was about 78% priced going in, and two hawkish dissents keep it the base case.
