Wow, didn't know that: turns out it's not only in Latin America that the Americans have a history of kidnapping other countries' presidents, they did it in the Philippines too!

Learned about it while visiting a museum today in Manila: back in 1901, the US went after Emilio Aguinaldo, president of the First Philippine Republic.

A team of American soldiers used deception, hired Filipino mercenaries and asked them to pose as the reinforcements Aguinaldo had requested, with the Americans themselves playing their prisoners. Aguinaldo even requested that the American "prisoners" be treated kindly. These fake prisoners repaid him by storming his camp and carting him off to Manila as their real prisoner...
