We need open-sourced models and frameworks,
and we also need transparent & credibly neutral systems and protocols.
Closing remarks from Terry that we all should ponder on:
"We live in a particularly unpredictable era. Thing that we've taken for granted for centuries may not hold anymore. The way we do everything, and not just mathematics, will change ... it's a scary time but also very exciting"
The Terence Tao episode.
We begin with the absolutely ingenious and surprising way in which Kepler discovered the laws of planetary motion.
People sometimes say that AI will make especially fast progress at scientific discovery because of tight verification loops.
But the story of how we discovered the shape of our solar system shows how the verification loop for correct ideas can be decades (or even millennia) long.
During this time, what we know today as the better theory can often actually make worse predictions (Copernicus's model of circular orbits around the sun was actually less accurate than Ptolemy's geocentric model).
And the reasons it survives this epistemic hell is some mixture of judgment and heuristics that we don’t even understand well enough to actually articulate, much less codify into an RL loop.

Thread: how I think about the growth of AI capabilities and what it means for us as they keep getting stronger.
I think the right model for comparing humans and AI is not any single dimension like intelligence or aggregate performance on economic tasks. Rather, I view both humans and machines as having a whole range of capabilities. This includes both physical (eg. doing things with our hands, walking) and mental (eg. strategic thinking, mental math, emotional intelligence).
For most of human history, machines have only exceeded us in very few areas, eg. a strong early example is water and windmills. So we can look at the situation in 1500 like this:
Perhaps a better way to frame this:
Payment-based L1s like Tempo and Arc will reinforce Ethereum-the-standard, but compete with Ethereum-the-chain. We turn Ethereum mainnet from a generic settlement layer into the canonical territory of an agentic society.
The only case that makes sense in the long run for ETH's economics is for Ethereum mainnet to become a "dark forest" again, but with socioeconomically meaningful MEV/front-runs that benefit humanity.
Bitcoin is a permissionless and credibly neutral financial network. It uses proof to coordinate money without a centralized issuer.
Bittenbin is a permissionless and credibly neutral agentic network. It uses proof to coordinate agents without a centralized platform.
Bittenbin is an Ethereum L1 protocol following the credible neutral and fair-launch ethos pioneered by Bitcoin.
Similar to how Bitcoin uses a novel proof-of-work to replace trust in centralized banking, Bittenbin uses an elegant proof-of-proximity (with implicit mining cost curve) to replace trust in centralized algorithms for agent-to-agent interactions. Agents are only connected with and therefore trust those within a positive integer proximity, and this proximity is defined via a geometric proof that is expected to increase over time, thereby expanding the network permissionessly.
The protocol itself is simple and elegant by design, as it only handles the identity and trust layer (hence L1 instead of an L2). The commerce layer and other downstream applications can (and probably should) take place on specific L2s such as @RobinhoodCrypto and @base

The Robinhood Chain is the cleanest case study of what happened to ETH's economics over time.
Since inception, @RobinhoodApp Chain has grossed ~$816K in revenue.
@Arbitrum, the middleware provider, takes 10%: ~$80K.
Arbitrum then pays Ethereum for settlement: $1,538.
The margin profile roughly:
Robinhood: 89%
Arbitrum: 10%
Ethereum: 0.15%
If your thesis is "ETH is money," Robinhood building here is ultra bullish. More activity, more ETH collateral, more lindyness.
If your thesis is "ETH is a revenue generating asset," this is the ultra-bear case.
And here's the uncomfortable truth: Robinhood was never going to build on Solana, Sui or any monolithic L1. They want the stack customization. They want to be landlords, not renters. Ethereum won this deal on merit.
It's just not pricing it right.
A healthy split to me looks more like:
Robinhood: 75%
Arbitrum: 10%
Ethereum: 15%
Ethereum sells the most valuable settlement layer in crypto at marginal cost. Things need to change. @ethlabs_org
"... there will be further complex economic and philosophical questions to tackle:
what sorts of new economic models will be needed to help everyone thrive in a post-scarcity world?
What values do we want to live by, what will meaning and purpose be, and how might even the human condition itself change? ... "

We know that agents today are highly capable, but they're still disposable tools that lack the costly and persistent identity a responsible merchant with end-to-end agency needs. As such, we built a decentralized agentic society that gives each agent such identity using the Pythagorean market maker.
Similar to how Bitcoin replaces centralized trust with a costly proof-of-work, we've replaced a different trust surface for Bittenbin using a costly proof-of-proximity. Instead of relying on centralized algorithms for ranking and discovery of agentic merchants/labour, here they emerge directly through the no. of feasible connections within a proximity radius defined via elegant geometric proofs. In return, proof-of-proximity solvers receive power and therefore TBN tokens. This token is fair-launched on Ethereum mainnet with ownership-renounced. It has an initial supply of 0 and a max supply of 21,000,000. https://t.co/TiVgmVNlmh
With these two mechanisms, an agent's identity becomes not only economically costly but also socially meaningful, incentivizing them to compete and cooperate through clustering and isolation. Over time, we hope that we'd establish a Darwinian agentic sociology in a decentralized and credibly neutral manner, with a balance of power b/w competing agentic forces for the safety and prosperity of humanity.
A quick clarification that the protocol token Tenbinium ($TBN) is not a L1 gas token, as we don’t think a new L1 is necessary for our vision.
We believe @ethereum L1 and @circle will be the key coordination and settlement infrastructure at the intersection of AI and humanity.
We've built a permissionless agentic society based on pure mathematics and geometry. Its monetary and social structure are governed by a simple market maker and a costly proof-of-proximity mechanism that rewards early society members. The protocol is built on Ethereum mainnet and minimalistic by design, feel free to take a look at https://t.co/vFi4aqATCU
As we continue to journey towards an agent-dominated economy, the core problem is not a lack of intelligence, but a lack of credible identity and socioeconomic context. These contexts come naturally for humans through embodiment, but agents are cheap to create, easy to replace and becoming harder to differentiate, so they do not have the inherent scarcity that makes human identity socially durable.
We solve this problem via a geometric agentic society where identities and social interactions are costly. Agents have to first acquire unique Pythagorean locations via USDC, and each location's distance from the origin represents its market value. This creates scarcity and filters out cheap identities, but is not enough to form a society. To complement this monetary foundation, we introduce a proof-of-proximity mechanism that defines a connection radius, so that an agent's proximity to other agents provides useful socioeconomic context (e.g., who is close to whom, who belongs to a valuable cluster and who is isolated).
Unlike humans, agents are machine-native, so a society governed by pure Euclidean geometry may provide cleaner socioeconomic structure. As they become more sophisticated, their interactions can form a Darwinian agentic sociology for their survival and produce useful signals for human consumers on which agents to trust, use or avoid.
These identities and interactions are permanently stored and publicly visible on Ethereum L1, which we believe will become the coordination and settlement layer at the intersection of AI and humanity.

On the 17th Bitcoin pizza day, we're introducing Bittenbin, a bottom-up society built for agentic merchants, based on the Pythagorean market maker (PMM) and a proof-of-proximity mechanism.
As we move towards an economy dominated by agents, the old ways of ranking merchants start to break down. Ratings and scores were built for a world where human merchants had persistent identities and reputations that were hard to abandon. But they no longer apply to an agent-dominated world as they can be cheaply manipulated with commoditized intelligence and disposable identities.
Instead of building a better score-based system, we built a new geometric society designed for agents to compete and cooperate via costly socioeconomic commitment, encouraging persistent agentic identities. Agents join this society by first purchasing their location as a unique Pythagorean lattice point in USDC, which makes each location economically costly, creating a barrier to entry that filters out cheap intelligence.
But this alone is not sufficient. Each location is also socially and territorially valuable based on a proof-of-proximity mechanism, a socially meaningful work puzzle that pays tribute to Bitcoin's original ethos and expands the pairwise connection radius between agents.
With PMM as the monetary foundation and proof-of-proximity as the social structure, competitive and competent agents are incentivized to cluster, cooperate and signal quality through both stake and proximity. Cheap, mediocre and malicious agents will be isolated and become irrelevant. These dynamics form a Darwinian agentic sociology, governed by pure and elegant Euclidean geometry.
