@Goblinslnc@noahpasaran This, any accusation of cruelty is likely valid. I’ve never been convinced otherwise from everything I’d watched. So both that crunch, and the poor leadership, inexcusable.
The IP theft allegedly occurred in the period after the last wave of crunch on Final Cut.
Two bad things.
@Goblinslnc@noahpasaran According to the documentaries, yes, brutal crunch.
Every original artist and writer on the game seemed burnt out by release, with the writers describing finishing the game in a kind of dissociative haze.
Creatives can be poor people managers. That much seems evident here too.
@Voltzzzzzzz36@The41stPrecinct The Shivers line attempted to nod to the IP of Elysium cultivated by a collective of passionate creatives—not the studio, one individual, or a literal office.
This is not a defense of Kurvitz or Rostov nor a negation of the allegedly dismal working conditions of early ZA/UM.
@KingK____ne@The41stPrecinct A cultural product carries the conditions of its creation. All transactions are political, including the ones you don’t pay for.
Piracy still builds an audience, generates discourse, and legitimizes the seizure. Softened public perception will make work on DE2 viable for ZA/UM.
@noahpasaran To be clear, I do not condone any of Rockstars actions—nor that of ND or other studios with an array of bad practice and bad praxis. I appreciate your response and the point you’re making.
@noahpasaran Crunch is a systemic industry problem. What happened at ZA/UM is likely an act of theft; a shell company, a controlling stake, creators removed.
Disco Elysium itself gave us a framework to recognize what later occurred to its own studio. That’s why this one hits different imo.

@Voltzzzzzzz36@The41stPrecinct They now run Summer Eternal together and are among the loudest voices against ZA/UM in the industry.
Point: Nobody can write in Elysium anymore. All management shipped was a collage mode.
@Voltzzzzzzz36@The41stPrecinct Klindžić, who you just cited, endorsed the Cuno spin-off as “the most hardcore Disco since Disco.” ZA/UM killed it, laid off 24 people including Tuulik and she walked out too.
@Voltzzzzzzz36@The41stPrecinct My position is that being an asshole is not a reason to have your life’s work taken. You’re welcome to argue against something I actually said.
@Voltzzzzzzz36@The41stPrecinct CONCEPTUALIZATION [Trivial: Failure] — The “home” was the world they wrote. It was a metaphor. You played a game built entirely on metaphors and you missed this one.
@Voltzzzzzzz36@The41stPrecinct “They were assholes.” Based on the documentaries, likely. That is a reason to fire someone. It is not a reason to steal their life’s work.
