BREAKING: President Bola Tinubu has approved salary increases for Nigeria’s armed forces personnel.
About 250,000 personnel are to benefit from the new deal.
Under the new arrangement, which becomes effective from September 1, officers above the rank of colonel will enjoy a 30 per cent salary increase. This applies to Brigadier-Generals, Major-Generals, Lieutenant Generals and Generals.
Personnel from colonel down to warrant officer will have a 50 per cent increase, while Private to Staff Sergeant will have an 80 per cent increase.

Here is the full list of the 12 Divisions after President Tinubu’s approval:
1. 1 Division – Kaduna (Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States)
2. 2 Division – Ibadan (Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo States)
3. 3 Division – Jos (Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe States)
4. 5 Division – Makurdi (Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi States)
5. 6 Division – Port Harcourt (Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States)
6. 7 Division – Maiduguri (Borno and Yobe States)
7. 8 Division – Sokoto (Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States)
8. 9 Division – Ilorin (Kwara and Niger States)
9. 10 Division – Jalingo (Taraba and Adamawa States)

The implementation of the new force structure will be executed in two phases. The initial phase, which includes the establishment of the 5, 9, and 10 Divisions, along with the reorganization of existing formations, is slated for completion by September 2026. The subsequent phase, which involves the establishment of the 83 Division and additional reorganization, is anticipated to be finalized by December 2026.
