@ethan_bratti the debate centers on whether a male critic can call a female artist’s work “main character” or not when the album in question was a reactionary one made to her experience w cancer. It’s not about whether the album is good or not (although I think it is😭)
@evielovesthings@UtterlyVapid while some points were valid criticism, he said she’s hell bent on making her audience know how “dark and edgy” she is, and that she has main character syndrome… this in response to songs that were reactionary to her near death experience teeters away from critical reviews(imo)
@justc0smicdu5t@ophoelia And this critique aligns with “woman are too emotional” hence the misogyny and issue with the review. It’s the same as him hating TTPD and Fiona Apple, albums centered on a woman’s focal viewpoint on her personal life…
@cocteautw1nks_ I watched it and used to regularly watch his reviews. He can have a valid point while failing to delivering it professionally. Saying she has “main character” syndrome on an album meant to focalize her near death exp is not productively doing anything…
@erikpalmer3000@undonnno It’s stupid to even address this because you aren’t comprehending. It’s not the review that’s the issue. Pitchfork also gave her a low score. It’s that he went beyond the music and into her personal life + minimized her experience with CANCER to “drama.” That’s the issue.
@erikpalmer3000@undonnno ??? Google patriarchy idiot. Social constructs governed by male figures that you are supporting by doing exactly the same thing. Zero braincells……
