Massive Push for Railway Infrastructure in West Bengal Under the Modi Government

A written reply by Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw to a question raised by Shri Samik Bhattacharya, State BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP, highlights the unprecedented expansion of railway infrastructure in West Bengal.

Key highlights:

• The Railway Budget for West Bengal has increased from an average of ₹4,380 crore (2009–14) to ₹14,205 crore in 2026–27, an increase of more than three times.

• 63 railway projects (14 new lines, 4 gauge conversion projects, and 45 doubling projects), worth ₹83,433 crore, are currently sanctioned in the state, covering 5,148 km.

• 1,721 km of railway lines have already been commissioned, with ₹27,949 crore spent up to March 2026.

• Since May 2026, land acquisition has accelerated significantly following improved coordination with the State Government.

• Several long-pending projects, including Kaliyaganj–Buniadpur, Naihati–Ranaghat 3rd Line, Sainthia Bypass, Anara Rail Flyover, Gourinathdham Rail Flyover, and the Nabadwipdham–Nabadwipdham New Line, have witnessed progress in land acquisition.

• A State-level Task Force, chaired by the Chief Secretary of West Bengal, has been constituted to expedite implementation and resolve project bottlenecks.

The reply also notes that the timely completion of railway projects depends on factors such as land acquisition, forest and statutory clearances, utility shifting, and law-and-order conditions.

তাঁর রচিত বহু পদ শিখ ধর্মের পবিত্র গ্রন্থ গুরু গ্রন্থ সাহিব-এ স্থান পেয়েছে, যা তাঁর আধ্যাত্মিক ও মানবিক দর্শনের সর্বজনীন গ্রহণযোগ্যতার প্রমাণ। সামাজিক ন্যায়, মানবিক মর্যাদা ও ভ্রাতৃত্বের যে আদর্শ সন্ত রবিদাস প্রতিষ্ঠা করেছিলেন, তা আজও সম���নভাবে প্রাসঙ্গিক এবং একটি ন্যায়ভিত্তিক, অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক সমাজ গঠনের পথে সেই আদর্শ আমাদের প্রেরণা জোগায়।

Compliant with BS-VI and IS 1460:2025 standards, XWG Diesel is fully compatible with the Indian Army's existing vehicle fleet, requiring no engine modifications or re-homologation. From precision parachute insertions at 900 ft and 10,000 ft to seamless transition into water, followed by a gruelling tactical march and a swift ground assault, every phase reflected meticulous planning, endurance and combat excellence.

Over 96 hours of sustained operations across Air, Water and Land, the exercise validated the Brigade's ability to project combat power rapidly, dominate multi-domain battlefields and accomplish complex missions with precision and resolve.
