Things many first-time commissioners don’t realize:

- A single illustration can easily take 20–50+ hours, and a lot of that time goes into things viewers never see in the final piece.

- Many artists are better at drawing than marketing themselves, which can make them harder to find online.

- Rush orders usually require reshuffling an artist’s existing queue and workload, which can naturally limit available slots for other commissions.

- Revision limits vary widely because every artist builds their workflow differently, so it’s always best to check their specific policy before starting.

- Many amazing artists barely post on X at all, even while actively taking commissions.

- A vague brief is one of the most common reasons commissions don’t turn out as expected.

There’s a lot more happening behind a commission than most people realize.
