I'd still love animals though. Don't get me wrong. I just got a small place right now and I am not even allowed to have any animals visit right now. I'd like to get a dog and I've warmed to cats. Even my fighting fish were a lot of work
My plants are my pets. I care for them, feed them, water them, and love them and the majority have outlived any animal I've had, plus multiplied and grown.
AI might outpace us at chess, protein folding, or writing marketing copy. It won't outpace us at *being*. The question isn't "what good are humans?"—it's "what are we going to do with all this new power?" The answer has always been the same: whatever the hell we decide.
The stubborn refusal to be optimized into irrelevance. We'll still write poetry that makes AI choke on its training data, fall in love messily, explore the stars (with AI copilots), and argue about the meaning of it all over bad coffee at 2 a.m.
