Asking a legitimate question as a former coach. Why wasn’t Harper on the court for the last 5 minutes of the game? Knicks had no answer for him 🤷🏾♂️. 3 total minutes for him in the 4th, come on Mitch!
Jeremy Lin heavily criticized Mitch Johnson and the Spurs’ fourth-quarter offense in Game 1, questioning the heavy reliance on Wemby isolations and the team's rotation choices:
"The focus for sure is the second half where they were minus-17, but specifically even in the fourth quarter, I didn't love the late-game offensive game plan. It was too much Wemby ISO. It just seemed like everything was difficult, everything was hard, everything was contested. Can we get him in more spontaneous, impulsive actions? Can we get him in some pin-downs? Can he set more screens? Can guards come set screens for him? It felt like every time down the floor they were giving him the ball, and KAT was doing a great job of playing defense, and Wemby was tired. So how are they able to create different actions so that the Knicks aren't seeing the same thing every single time? Another piece that's really important is Keldon Johnson, who played only eight minutes. Sixth Man of the Year, a lot of minutes went to Harrison Barnes. I'm not sure what's happening there, but there is going to be a different level of production that needs to be had from other players stepping in. Dylan Harper obviously had an amazing game, but we need the Keldon Johnsons and obviously De'Aaron Fox to be able to step up. I do think there's a lot to be said for in terms of how big that moment was for the Spurs."
I would even put Plumlee in the game when Mitchell Robinson is in. Mix it up Mitch, it’s the Finals. You and your coaches must be better with in-game adjustments.
@TylerGlasscock_ I don’t see them shooting this bad again but on another note, it’s clear to the eye that during crunch time, the Knicks know Brunson is their closer while the Spurs hope Wemby/Fox can be their closer.
@TylerGlasscock_ 2014 Spurs championship. Spurs lost game 2 at home to the Heat and headed to Miami tied 1-1 and still brought home the championship. A lot to clean up, Spurs can’t shoot any worse. It will be 1-1 heading back to NY next Monday. Go Spurs Go!
@TylerGlasscock_ He has zero answers on the offensive end. Forces stupid shots, always rushed, nothing is smooth. Knicks may win this series if he continues to stink it up. On to Game 2.
@EricSal_7 💯. That Brunson 3 after the Spurs can’t grab a rebound was the dagger. Mitch should’ve had Kornet with Vic and Harper for Fox on the floor. Got nothing from Fox or Devin tonight. Kinda expected it after all the energy they expelled from Game 7.
@BexarApparel Fox is so up and down. Zero consistency from him and it has nothing to do with him being injured. Zero lobs to a man who’s almost 8 feet tall. Makes zero sense.
@hymnduncan Remember, OKC lost game 1 at home last year. It’s not over yet but it’s only 1 game. Spurs look raggedy on both ends of the court, that’s what happens when you play a Game 7.
@1Tavarius@hymnduncan Time for the Spurs to man up and find the guts to get this W. 7 minutes to go, must defend and get good looks on the offensive ends.
Can’t believe how soft and sloppy the Spurs are playing. 5 minutes to go and down 6 and on the verge of losing game 1 because 3 of their starters look like crap. Vic playing softer than toilet paper, Fox and Devin🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️.
