@WNYC mocking memes WRONG. People NEED RADICAL interventions to protect healthcare, housing. We will win the meme war and be homeless. The landlords, private equity, etc.. THE DEMS SHOULD DELIVER an unequivocal commitment to affordability -- Gavin is a narcissist -form & no substance.
@WNYC None of this "housing" report mentions anything to address the caller who clearly stated Tenant harassment. This is what I mean by the media being SILENT on tenants rights. It's as if she didn't call and SAY how elected officials and housing court did nothing to protect her.
@WNYC I think the MEDIA did a HORRIBLE job NOT really covering the Cuomo 60 million of our tax dollars to harass his sexual assault accusers. That should have been the story day 1 when Cuomo started “exploring” having a campaign. But clearly polls and the media are out of touch.
@WNYC The caller stating the horrors of landlord harassment, housing court unfair and NO HELP from elected officials. I called and said that. Housing is MORE than affordability it’s ACCOUNTABILITY to landlords to provide safe, clean housing w/o tenant harassment! Ppl have spoken!
@TeachersCollege@AutumnAdia@RuizSealey Yes!! Academia needs to divest from a paradigm that emphasizes knowledge over people. We are full human beings. We can’t be reduced. Love is central and crucial to “know thyself”
@BrianLehrer@WNYC@Gothamist@lizkimtweets And investigations of fraud also cost tax payers and the vendor is still getting paid through end of 2024? -- if I commit fraud I'm in jail-- but my taxes are paying for investigations and fraud?
@BrianLehrer@WNYC@Gothamist@lizkimtweets If not what's the point of having a comptroller to show loses after the fact and can't DO anything?? This is why COVID and other emergencies end up costing us money and then libraries are closed and vendors line their pockets. Is America really this silly? Shld i run for office?
@BrianLehrer@WNYC@Gothamist@lizkimtweets I want NYC to NYS to be proactive. Why can't Emergency Management have a clause that if vendors engage in fraud or other illegal activities on behalf of tax payers-- they are bared for forever for other contracts AND fined heavily?
@BrianLehrer@librarycongress Also this segment didn’t discuss discrimination and lack of black & brown hosts of radio shows. So post George Floyd I’m immensely disappointed in this segment. Black to normal.
@BrianLehrer@librarycongress Also the 20s - 50s was the height of Jim Crow and lynching so while radio shows & trivia was entertaining, we have to think about radio as an apolitical space to escape guilt from racial violence
@BrianLehrer@librarycongress Also the caller mentioning her family and the Census in 1820- slavery was happening in Brooklyn. I got a fellowship with the National Endowment for the Humanities - 83 streets named about slave owners in BK, so again history isn’t flat & there’s MORE to explore.
@BrianLehrer@librarycongress Great segment, BUT we need to add complexity. Slavery was abolished in NYC -1827. When the expert mentioned “immigrants” not mentioning Native Americans or Black ppl to me is an injustice. My tax dollars are to fund all history, not further ignore history of marginalized ppl.
@DJRTistic NY was a slave state. States in the north had slavery as well. I’ve been setting history and you can look this up. New Jersey was one of the last states to end slavery three years after Juneteenth.
@BrianLehrer@PeterHamby@WNYC I don’t care about the “constitutional crisis”. Housing crisis. Childcare crisis. Attacks on DEI crisis. AI regulation and job crisis. Seriously? Fear of Trump is not enough to get people to vote. Biden is selfish 2 run and Democrats r depressing & uninspiring. Total FAILURE.
@BrianLehrer@PeterHamby@WNYC MSNBC monotony adds 2 the lack of imagination. AntiTrump but NOT clear 2 hold the democrats accountable 2 have LEADERS that SOLVE our problems w/ policies & being non-negotiable. So instead we are groomed 4 debate theatrics instead of SOLUTIONS. The world is watching & LAUGHING.
@BrianLehrer@PeterHamby@WNYC In America there is NO imagination and NO safety net. And the only consolation prize is NOT having Trump?
Biden is not the spoon full of sugar or the medicine. He’s a pathetic placeholder that has infected America with a pandemic of apathy. - Kanene from Harlem
@BrianLehrer@PeterHamby@WNYC This debate is a disaster- a lack of American imagination. Biden is SILENT on URGENT issues like private equity buying up home and rental properties.
Biden is SILENT on beefing up the EEOC to prevent discrimination and attacks on marginalized groups in the workplace.
@BrianLehrer@lizkimtweets@WNYC I don’t think congestion pricing is a pro-poor, pro-Black policy. There r tons of 2 fare zone & older NYrs in Canarsie & elsewhere that need cars. My older aunts & uncles can’t be on filthy, late trains. I’m also pro-disability. They are pawns in this debate. Cut tax breaks now
@BrianLehrer@lizkimtweets@WNYC I think congestion pricing is magical thinking. Reduce cars & ALL these ppl take the trains? That are ALREADY crowded, filthy & late? We already pay city, state AND federal taxes. Our taxes shld fund improvements NOT tolls. The best encouragement 4 mass transit IS better transit
@BrianLehrer@errollouis@WNYC How will you as president prevent private equity and other monied interests from aggressively buying up homes and drastically increasing rents or buying property all cash? This is no longer capitalism. Housing is a human right.
