Some will say you should only have a statue if you've won trophies.

But on rare occasions in football some things can be bigger than lifting a piece of metal.

Kevin Keegan gave Newcastle United something that can't be measured by silverware. He gave a city belief. He gave supporters hope. He made lots of people fall in love with football all over again.

His passion was infectious. Whether it was on the touchline, in a press conference alongside Alan Shearer, or speaking about Newcastle years after he'd left, every word came straight from the heart. It wasn't an act—it was genuine. That's why his players wanted to run through brick walls for him, and why thousands of us would have done exactly the same from the stands.

Look across social media and you'll see supporters of every club sharing stories about how Kevin Keegan inspired them. Not many managers are still loved so deeply decades after leaving. Fewer still are remembered as warmly by football fans across the entire country.

Weeks before his passing at an event in Newcastle, Kevin was asked about a statue and in his normal joking, warm humour said 'maybe when I pass away'..
