It took me to find LITTLE WOMEN in the original length. Also, THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS in an edition that contained the PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN chapter.

The reasoning is: children today are stupid/ have no patience/ should be educated away from traditional ideas.
