A personal reason.
A personal goal.
A personal commitment.
Celebrate people's wins.
Just do not build your entire drive on them.
Meanwhile a lot happened while I was away, so who has the tea. π
Around November and December, my timeline fills up with funded announcements, new jobs, wins, milestones, and those Pinterest style "I made it" posts.
I used to get triggered by them.
Not because I wasn't happy for people, but because I'd start questioning my own pace.
The thing I eventually realized is this:
If other people's success is the only thing fueling your ambition, you'll burn out.
External motivation is powerful, but it does not last.
The people who keep going are usually driven by something deeper than comparison.
So yes, the process may look like:
Attract audience
Convert them to followers
Nurture them into community
But behind that process, these three roles are each doing different work to move people from one stage to the next.
That is why understanding the relationship matters.
A lot of people understand audience, followers, and community separately, but they still mix up the roles of a marketer, an SMM, and a CM.
The truth is, these three roles are connected. "@iamveektoria_"
They just do different jobs at different stages.
A thread. π§΅
I get asked a lot about the difference between audience, followers, and community.
Today, Iβve broken down the differences, and this is especially important for SMMs, marketers, and CMs to understand.
β Audience
Your audience is made up of people your content speaks to. Not all of them follow you, many simply come across your content because it is targeted at them.
β Followers
Followers are people from that audience who choose to follow you, showing a deeper level of interest and connection.
β Community
A community is the deepest level of connection. It is a group of people who engage with you, support you, advocate for you, and are genuinely impacted by what you do.
Marketers, Social Media Managers (SMMs), and Community Managers (CMs) all work with audiences, but with different goals.
β Marketers focus on attracting the right target audience and driving conversions.
β SMMs focus on creating content that attracts a specific audience, building visibility, and growing followership while strengthening the brand.
β CMs focus on attracting a specific audience with the goal of nurturing relationships, increasing engagement, and building a strong, connected community for a brand or individual.
No matter the role, the process is similar:
β You attract your target audience
β Turn them into followers
β Grow them into a community
By the way, how many of you truly understand the relationship between a marketer, an SMM, and a CM?
Iβd love to hear from you. Iβll be going through the quotes and comments.
Letβs have it π«³
This is why many brands struggle.
Sometimes they hire one person and expect them to do all three roles perfectly.
They want strategy, content, engagement, growth, trust building, conversions, and community management all from one person.
That is why confusion happens.
