@OwlcatGames Abadar's curse, more like. I've now spent more time trying to launch game than the discount was worth. Hi spec machine, no mods, tried all the fixes, never made it past load screen.
@MikeTanier Santa strives to reward virtue and punish mideeds. If you wish for arbitrary, irrational outcomes, you need to pray to the officiating crew.
@MikeTanier I agree. Marlowe played his part with a lot more commitment. (Which isn't to say I blame Carr for not putting more heart into blocking a freight train.)
@LucasRNeal I've been a student or faculty in about a dozen humanities/fine arts programs, and theatre companies, in three countries, since 1993. This tweet would be applicable to at least half of them.
@ReneeCeeP @AustinHarrisoNZ Again, I'm sorry that I failed you, even if I didn't realize you needed help. I agree with you about grey areas being prone to abuse and abusers. Perhaps what I should have said is not that the policy is bad, but that it is not nearly enough.
@AustinHarrisoNZ @ReneeCeeP My experience, also firsthand, was that the institution protected itself first, while the staff and students had to work with a violent bully for years while management ignored us. Self interest only influenced my decision to quit that job.
@samvirwin I also met my wife when she was a student. Not mine. Both in our 30s. Our second date was a romantic declaration of a potential conflict of interest to my boss. You don't have to like my reaction. I'd love to be wrong about this. But I have never seen a policy change culture.
@lulamorashi @ReneeCeeP @AustinHarrisoNZ Thanks! I got stuck in hyperlink loop. I agree the previous *system* did not work, because culture beats policy. Policy was "If you see something say something" but culture was "actually please don't ha ha seriously if we keep hearing things there will be trouble for all of you."
@ReneeCeeP @AustinHarrisoNZ And fear is in my experience the preferred tool used by university administration to divide & control faculty, staff, and students. They love it when we're all policing each other instead of them. Adequate enforcement of the existing policy would have sufficed to ID bad actors.
@ReneeCeeP @AustinHarrisoNZ Much of the harm will be unseen: people will be declined jobs without ever knowing a bunch of profs -- who believe me are not HR pros -- were discussing their sex lives in a committee meeting. Or they will be discouraged from applying. Gonna be a lot of fear.
