BWFJ believes that African American workers need self organization to empower ourselves at the workplace, in communities and throughout the whole of US society.
My first journal article is out in the Journal of African American History’s Special Issue on The Black 1980s. The editors did a great job putting together an issue that will be useful to the current movement for Black freedom and self-determination. Check it out!❤️🖤💚
@JillianDURM Yes. But also
- we can bargain with management in “meet and confer” sessions.
- bosses can sign MOUs
- we can talk about unions on our job as long as it doesn’t hinder work
- we can sign union cards & petitions
- 13th amendment bars indentured servitude so we can withhold labor

On Monday, our brother, comrade, and long-time chairperson, Saladin Muhammad joined the ancestors. Saladin’s unmatched organizing skills led to the formation of the @BlackWorkers, @UE150Union, and the @SWA_solidarity, just to recognize a few of his impactful accomplishments.
We are deeply saddened to share the news that our comrade and brother Saladin Muhammad - a founding member of @BlackWorkers, @UE150Union, and the Southern Workers Assembly - passed yesterday morning.

Rest in Peace and Power, Saladin
He was an anti-racist fighter for over 50 years. He was arguably one of the most influential behind-the-scenes workers' rights organizer in NC for the last three decades, but wasn't on social media and has no wikipedia page

#ElizabethCity city workers on day #2 of their #strike today! After 3 years of 0% raises and being 35% behind others in their industry, city council decided tonight on pathetic 4% raise and to study $15/hr minimum wage #organizethesouth
Racists covered up Tulsa & now they are trying to cover up an insurrection. Cover up rather than pulling off the covers is how America has responded to racism far too often.
