Dr. Samira Addrey is a Ghanaian-American physician and activist who graduated summa cum laude from Cuba's Latin American School of Medicine in 2020. She now works with IFCO to help low-income youth study medicine in Cuba.

As Martin Luther King jr proclaimed “The U.S. is the biggest purveyor of violence.” Through militarism, war and sanctions, US government administrations have historically contributed to the destruction of land and the impoverishment of the majority of humanity.

In contrast, Cuba, shortly after the 1959 Cuban revolution, established a medical diplomacy program–sending medical personnel overseas as a symbol of solidarity with the world, primarily to Latin America, Africa, & Pacific island countries, & it is ongoing for over six decades.

💸 In a move meant to further paralyze the Cuban economy & crush its people, the Trump admin enacted a sudden suspension of remittances, ending the ability of Cubans working abroad to send money to their families back home.

It was faith groups in the 1980s that declared churches as sanctuary space for refugees that pushed the Sanctuary Movement. We will continue our movement not only for sanctuary but also for full dignity!

The U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) sued NY & Chicago over sanctuary status & alleged failures to enforce federal immigration law.
