When you are first trying to get diagnosed, the more specific you can be in your descriptions, the better. Doctors are used to discussing IC or any other medical condition and you shouldn't feel ashamed. Just go for it.

Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome is very unpredictable – you can be fine one minute and in terrible pain the next. This makes it very hard to plan! If you know an IC sufferer they may have to cancel at the last minute.
