@bbatsov This article - https://t.co/u2oo0UW0c9 - seems to use base name and stem both for the same thing. But to answer your original question, I don’t think I’ve ever heard of stem used in this context.
@bbatsov It is, but that’s still the command for the job and since filename seems appropriate for the name with suffix, I guess I have associated base name with the meaning you asked.
@bbatsov I’ve always used base name for that and file name for the base name + extension. No idea why exactly, but probably because the basename command is the way to get that in a UNIX.

As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.
Look at the wings of this fly
It’s called Goniurellia tridens, each wing has a detailed image of an ant, flashing its wings gives the appearance of ants walking
Most of its predators would want to avoid a confrontation with the stings of ants 1/🧵

It took me less than 25 minutes to set up a fake anonymous Apple ID using a VPN and disposable email, attach a masked debit card to it (with the address being Twitter's HQ), and get a verified account for a prominent figure. Just think what a nation-state or bad actor could do...
humanities degrees can lead to analysis paralysis and stem degrees can lead to a reductive solutionist perspective. but I have never heard anyone from humanities question the need for stem to exist. it's a problem that so many consider humanities an indulgence and not a necessity

No, this photo doesn't portray one of the new creatures on HBO's "House of the Dragon," or an outtake from a horror movie. It's an award-winning close-up photo of ... an ant. https://t.co/dsRP63I4CU
