Eskom’s generation performance continues to improve, strengthening the reliability and resilience of South Africa’s electricity supply.

📈 67.87% — Year-to-date Energy Availability Factor (EAF), the highest level since 2020
📉 19.58% — Unplanned outages, down from 34.5%
⚡ 6 873MW — Additional generation capacity returned to the grid compared to three years ago
💰 82.38% — Reduction in diesel expenditure year-on-year, saving R4.89 billion

From 1 April to 27 August 2026, diesel expenditure fell from R5.93 billion to R1.04 billion, while the use of Open-Cycle Gas Turbines dropped from 8.27% to just 1.10%.

These gains reflect sustained improvements across Eskom’s generation fleet — helping deliver a more reliable, efficient and resilient electricity supply, while reducing operating costs and supporting South Africa’s economic growth.
