🚨New Paper Alert!🚨
In our latest work, we found that consort bigfin reef squid males (1) can be very flamboyant, and (2) probe locations before females lay their eggs. But why? And what does that mean biologically? Read on! @pilesofsquid@ESAEcology

Our new paper pharmacologically demonstrates that GABA-A-like receptors and other ligand-gated chloride channels may underlie elevated CO2-induced behavioural alterations in squid.

New insights into coral bleaching and heat stress metrics coming soon.
Delighted to hear our manuscript was finally accepted!

Thrilled to have been involved with a brilliant analysis by @LiamLachs et al. to better understand the optimal heat stress metrics needed for reliably predicting mass coral bleaching events.
Can we improve predictions of mass coral bleaching by fine-tuning heat stress metrics?

@ljchlebeck@thedailyjaws It definitely wouldn't hurt...but I think Attenborough covers shark revenge in one of the Blue Planet episodes if you want to get straight to the facts.
@ljchlebeck@thedailyjaws Buddy, you have to check out Jaws 4...it's brilliant. It is about a white shark that follows a family (who travelled via aircraft) from New England to the Bahamas...because it just really freakin hates that particular family of humans. Masterful story and film. 10/10
What is ocean acidification? How does it affect marine animals and their environments? Senior Curator Marine Invertebrates Dr Sue-Ann Watson (@watsonsueann) chats about her important work and research at the museum.

Saddened but not surprised. Tiger sharks have declined by 74% on Australia's east coast over the last 5 decades. This should not be allowed.

This is what the northern tip of #LizardIsland looked like 10 days ago. Corals had a chance to grow over the last few years.
BUT, those pretty fluorescent colours indicate heat-stress. Unless water temps drop, these corals could bleach and disappear again

A full mapping -- down to 1 cm in size -- of the areas that can retain water ice on the Moon shows that "micro cold traps" are the most numerous. In total, ~40,000 km2 of the lunar surface can hold water. Hayne et al.: https://t.co/2BmZQdylZo
@BobbyScott4VA3 Luckily, voting by mail....I was able to do a google search to determine what the heck this question meant before casting my vote. Hope more people can read this before they enter the booth. Thanks, Bobby! 👍
New research from Spady and Watson @jcu - Bigfin reef squid demonstrate capacity for conditional discrimination and projected future carbon dioxide levels have no effect on learning capabilities. Read the full @thePeerJ article https://t.co/Vfk63Xmz82 #Bigfin#reef#squid
