در مقاله جدیدم در Jerusalem Post به این موضوع پرداخته‌ام که چرا مقایسه آینده ایران با عراق و لیبی یک خطای تاریخی و راهبردی است.

عراق و لیبی، کشورهای ساخته شده در قرن بیستم هستند، اما ایران یک ملت ـ دولت تاریخی با هزاران سال تداوم فرهنگی، هویت ملی و تجربه دولت‌داری است. هگل، فیلسوف آلمانی، ایران را نخستین دولت‌ تاریخی جهان می‌دانست.

تفاوت در همین‌جاست: ایران مانند عراق و لیبی نیازمند ساختن یک هویت ملی از صفر نیست. ایران دارای حافظه تاریخی و پیوندهای ملی است. آینده ایران بر پایه بازسازی این تجربه تاریخی شکل خواهد گرفت.

ایران پیش از سال ۱۳۵۷ تجربه توسعه، نهادهای مدرن و ارتباط گسترده با جهان را داشت. مسئله امروز ایران، بازگشت به مسیر یک کشور آزاد، مستقل و مدرن است و‌ نه ساختن چیزی که‌ پیشتر وجود نداشت مانند عراق و لیبی.

انقلاب ملی شیر و خورشید در دی ماه نشان داد که هویت ملی ایرانیان تعیین کننده ترین نیرو در تحولات ایران است. از تبریز، بزرگ‌ترین شهر آذربایجان، تا کرمانشاه، بزرگ‌ترین شهر کردنشین، شعارهای ملی و حمایت از شاهزاده رضا پهلوی نشان‌دهنده اهمیت هویت ملی در آینده ایران است.

شاهزاده رضا پهلوی، نماد یک «آینده تجربه شده» و پیوند میان تجربه تاریخی ایران و آینده‌ای است که بر آزادی، ثبات، سکولاریسم و رابطه با جهان آزاد استوار است.

مقاله همچنین به نقش ایرانیان خارج از کشور اشاره می‌کند؛ جامعه‌ای که در کنار اعتراضات داخل ایران، صدای مردم ایران در جهان بوده و تصویری از یک ایران آزاد، مدرن و آینده‌نگر را نمایندگی می‌کند.

آینده ایران را نباید با شکست عراق و لیبی قضاوت کرد. تفاوت در تاریخ، هویت ملی و ظرفیت‌های اجتماعی ایران است.

پایان جمهوری اسلامی و شکل‌گیری یک ایران آزاد و مستقل، از نگاه این تحلیل، برای ثبات منطقه و امنیت ملی آمریکا نیز اهمیت راهبردی دارد.

The entire Shiloh Hendrix affair is an example of the creeping Yookay-ification of America.
