feeling like OCD is an evolutionarily encoded instinct for perfecting small artifacts like arrowheads
it’s not the optimal instinct for designing a factory though it points the way 🏭
my girlfriend: "I guess it works I just didn't think anyone would do that intentionally. I love you. I love you. That's really cute. But also you have so much going on up there don't you?"
I think we should popularize bezels. They just happened to be a by-product of the tech limitations at the time. Bezels serve as constant depth reference for your eyes to wander beyond the edge of the screen without hunting for focus. They also provide an unchanging contrast against the foreground regardless of the activity and light conditions behind the monitor. Ideally, you want a light-hood like you see on reference quality displays. I think Bezel-free design is flawed except in a few cases like a handheld device or laptop that you see in the picture below where screen realestate is valuable.
If you take a consumer survey, 100% will prefer thinner bezels as an aesthetic preference. I like to think it is some bezel-free cabal that's conspiring against us 😀 and it's a psyop. Or it is also possible I have psychosis and I like bezels. One of these is true.
