Creatives are not angry because of one person . This has been happening for a long time.

Every now and then, someone comes out with a “design challenge” and asks people to create full work banners, covers for free. At the end of the day, most times:

• They already know who they want

• Or they don’t even plan to use any of the submissions

• Or it just becomes free promotion for them

Meanwhile, creatives spend real time and effort just to be “seen.”

At the very least, acknowledge the work. Like it, repost it, engage with it. Let people feel seen.

Better still, if you need a designer, ask for portfolios and then hire properly.

This is not about religion, status, or who said it. It’s about a pattern of disrespect towards creatives.

Let’s stop twisting it and call it what it is.

@OluwatobiOtun When you start to charge, you hear things like is it not something I can do in canva? With family I let them handle stuff on their own, give out jobs and pay when I am not in the freewill to do stuff. I create for them because I love them but not at the expense of my real work.

@OluwatobiOtun Well said…I would give another scenerio that hrs home with this…you meet a friend…they sell wigs or maybe bracelets anything at all, every time you ask a price for an item you make sure you pay regardless of how long it takes but you pay.

@OluwatobiOtun Then there is a designer who has a design as a business but everything time thay same friend asks can you do a design for me and they never pay for it, not even an exchange whatsoever. Just because the word think the mental work isn’t visible therefore it’s not actual business
