ICYMI — @MarshaBlackburn@SenatorHagerty and Senate Republicans just voted against REPUBLICAN Rand Paul’s effort to stop Trump from murdering people in boats in international waters without any due process (or proof)
“Killing people without due process is a war crime.”
One Bay Saint Louis family chose to ride out #Hurricane#KATRINA in their old house on Demontluzin Avenue, near Downtown. It had survived every other hurricane, including CAMILLE. But KATRINA was something different. As their house collapsed from the force of wind and wave, they escaped through a second-story window and grabbed hold of this tree. And that's where they rode out the storm—three people and a dog, clinging to its branches. The noble old tree died protecting them. Later, it was moved to the waterfront, where artist Dale Lewis turned it into this Angel Tree—one of five in the Bay. They're stark monuments to the wrath of KATRINA—sentinels watching the Gulf for future dangers. #Mississippi
I don't know what, exactly, to make of the Journal piece.
I do know that this particular defense—"Does anyone honestly believe this sounds like Donald Trump?"—has, in the past, left some loyalists looking very, very stupid. https://t.co/rT9d3ijUue
Big loss for rural America. Cuts to NPR budgets will mean local stations will be much more reliant on national coverage emanating from NYC and DC.
So way more of that 'coastal elitism' and much less local history and unique tales.
“Did we in our own strength confide
Our striving would be losing
Were not the right Man on our side
The Man of God's own choosing
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is He
Lord Sabaoth His Name
From age to age, the same
And He must win the battle”
“There are people in the world who are so sick or so angry that they sometimes hurt other people and they’re usually the ones who end up in the news...but when we get sad and angry, you and I, we know what to do with our feelings so we don’t have to hurt other people.”
Senator @ossoff & @SenatorWarnock: “This bill is a disaster in every way imaginable — a budget is a moral document, and this speaks volumes about who Republicans think matters and who doesn’t.” #TrumpsTrillionsTransfer
If our Christianity causes kids to go hungry, the sick to go without healthcare, the stranger to be unwelcome, the needy to be called “parasites,” all while billionaires get richer, we’ve profoundly misunderstood the most basic elements of Jesus’ teachings.
Republicans want to talk about waste, fraud, and abuse — they claim that's all their budget cuts.
Are rural hospitals a waste? Is getting care at a hospital close to home somehow committing fraud?
Because their budget would close 35 of Kentucky's rural hospitals.
To treat land, water, wildlife, and wilderness as mere commodities—up for sale to the highest bidder—is a violation of both Scripture and conscience. This is not stewardship. It is desecration. Fueled by reckless greed.

The poor are not a distraction for the Church, but our beloved brothers and sisters, for by their lives, their words and their wisdom, they put us in contact with the truth of the Gospel. https://t.co/gNVaIXqxQG
When people ask, "Why don't more women come forward?" I think of Jennifer Lyell. Evil people hounded her, harassed her, and relentlessly attacked her. These words, by @kkdumez are haunting:
The ERLC is the only entity in the history of the SBC to denounce police brutality. The ERLC made it clear that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton would be a difficult vote for persons whose votes were driven by certain moral values. Therefore, it isn’t surprising to me to see the MAGA wing of the SBC to want to eliminate the ERLC. The ERLC has been the most vocal and helpful SBC entity on the forefront of bridging the gap, and healing the racial divide. Donald Trump is on record holding Russell Moore in contempt, and calling him “nasty”. Punishing or eliminating the ERLC would be
pleasing to DJT, and evidence his influence in the SBC is enormous. Eliminating the ERLC will only further alienate the very people the SBC claims that they want to evangelize and disciple. I pray that the SBC love souls more so than to engage in this unwise, politically partisan exercise.
