'GANTZ' creator Hiroya Oku explains why his manga often include depictions of racism and xenophobia

"It’s only natural that differences in appearance or race can breed a lack of empathy. Portraying a society as if these things didn’t exist would feel unrealistic to me"

He follows saying the latter half of 'GANTZ' focuses on overcoming prejudice through mutual understanding

"I know that real wars and social issues are far more complex than that. Still, I want to depict anti-war themes and a sense of humanism. That way, I can stay true to myself without lying."
