Reliance on Russian energy. Significant underinvestment in infrastructure. Refusal to deficit spend. Belief that China wouldn't leverage their "partnership" to develop its own indigenous manufacturing capabilities. Shutdown of nuclear power plants. Reliance on export-oriented growth. Bureaucratic inertia and refusal to modernize. Failure to address aging population.

Germany in Feb 2022: 5000 helmets, no lethal weapons to Ukraine to fight russia's large-scale attack on Ukraine's territory.
Germany in Aug 2024: it is completely normal for Ukraine to use German tanks on russian territory.

❗️Czechia has provided Ukraine with almost 60% of its heavy weapons, and they are already in Ukraine. Norway has committed just over 50%, half of which is already destroying russians.
In total, NATO and the EU have provided Ukraine with 10% of howitzers, 6% of MLRS, and 5% of tanks.
If NATO and the EU had the same numbers as the Czech Republic or Norway, the russians would have lost long ago.
But apparently only dilettantes rule in other countries.
