Microsoft is making AI agents a lot easier to teach. 👀
Meet Skill Recorder — an open-source tool that turns your actual computer workflow into reusable AI skills.
No need to spend ages crafting prompts. Just do the task once, let GitHub Copilot analyse your actions, and it can generate a SKILL.md file or even set up a scheduled automation.
Here's how it works:
→ Record your clicks, window switches and commands
→ Let Copilot figure out the task and break it down into steps
→ Generate a reusable skill or an automation workflow
The latest v0.7.0 update also adds a SKILL.md preview, so you can review the instructions before exporting them — no need to run the model again just to check the output.
It supports macOS, Windows 11 and Ubuntu, with the required GitHub Copilot access.
One thing to watch out for: recordings stay local, but once you hit Analyse, the relevant data is sent to GitHub's cloud for processing. Keep passwords, API keys and other sensitive information out of your recordings.
Honestly, this is a pretty practical direction for AI agents.
Instead of writing a long prompt to explain how to do something, why not just show the agent once and let it learn the workflow?
Less prompting. More showing.
