@holysmoke Yes I agree - water shortages are a terrible worry. My prayer is that our politicians will forget about futile solar panels and windmills and spend our taxes on water retention schemes instead.
@holysmoke We’d all love to return to the days of the Wenham Lake ice safe and he’s right to say that people haven’t had fridges for a lot longer than they have but you need a big house to accommodate all the bottling, pickling and preserving you need to do to stop things going off.
@CamillaTominey@MattRodda Why would anyone go to one of these ghastly events? What’s festive about camping and being buffeted by throngs of sweaty strangers?
@holysmoke@DavidHein9 I think the late Queen was a major draw. I know a number of A-Cs (or high Anglicans) who absolutely deplored female ordination and other such trendy ideas but who still wanted to be part of a church whose supreme governor was Her Majesty.
@holysmoke Yes you’re probably right - it’s a shame one can’t know what Haydn, Mozart, Bach, Beethoven etc etc were like when they were directing an orchestra. I imagine good.
@holysmoke I have some sympathy with @ClarkeMicah since in Brighton Rock, Pinky and all the other catholics describe be themselves as Romans. And I’ve always had the highest admiration for Graham Greene.
