This is why The Economist probably shouldn't report on Ecology news.😜
"Still a relatively poor country" is doing a lot of work in that opening line. Why does India's conservation success always need a disclaimer before it's allowed to be impressive?
Worth remembering: at the 1972 Stockholm Conference, the very first UN conference on environment, India's PM was the only foreign head of government, out of 113 nations, to attend and speak. We weren't a footnote to the environmental movement. We helped start it.
Meanwhile, this Wildlife Week alone: a tigress reintroduced in Buxa, a new GIB breeding and rewilding programme in Rajasthan, and a cheetah population growing back from local extinction.
And yes, this "poor" country keeps submitting and updating ambitious NDCs while plenty of wealthier nations stall on theirs.
Perhaps it's less about India achieving "something extraordinary despite being poor," and more about India being consistently serious about this, for over 50 years now.
Ya Allah, enlighten my heart and mind with the light of knowledge.

purify our hearts from hidden shirk and nifaq, guide our moral conduct, protect our tongues from falsehood, and our eyes from treachery, and pardon our sins, both those we are aware of and those we are not.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Whoever says:
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ
'Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi'
100 times in a day, his sins are forgiven, even if they were like the foam of the sea."
This takes under 5 minutes ⏳ and requires very little effort to complete..
O Allah, bestow upon us blessings in our lives, noor in our hearts, and brightness on our faces.
Grant us plentiful sustenance, firmness on the Haqq, satisfaction within our souls, and acceptance in the hearts of Your creation.

Ya Allah, grant me the blessing of uttering "La ilaha illa Allah" at the time of death, my final actions pleasing to You, and my eternal home in the uppermost gardens of Jannah.

Ya Rabb, bestow Sabr upon those fighting illness.

Ameen Ya Rabb.
